Rifle Logbook
Posted: December 01, 2008 | Last Updated: August 21, 2010 | Views:18415

I recently (Feb. 2007) decided to make my own logbook for my rifle after looking at a few samples on the net and after not being happy with my T.R.G.T. Log Book purchase.  The T.R.G.T. is a good book, but it has two (2) things going against it.  First, it’s spiral bound, which is great for a Police SS, but not what I needed.  Second, is that it (as every other book I have seen) has many pages that I will never use in my shooting style.

I kept finding that these two items were common issues with existing sources that I could find, so below is my solution to that problem.

The PDF files were rendered from Visio files that I created the cards with and fellow shooter “Cixelsyd” on “The Hide” converted to PDF for me.

Many pages look similar to those in my T.R.G.T. book and have only been changed the slightest to what I thought made better sense in layout.  Some pages (or parts) come from other sources.  To be honest I can’t remember where exactly everything came from but searching for “Sniper Log Book” on www.google.com and www.snipershide.com found most of what is out there.

I did decide early on that loose leaf was the way to go and that “Rite in the Rain” paper was perfect for the job and went with the 4-5/8"x7-1/2" format.

The best source I have found for the parts is www.trailexplorers.com.  Their website is a little hard to navigate but they have the best prices and all the parts you will need.

LATEST VERSION:

was kind enough to reformat all the pages using Visio!  The master layered file is included in this zip along with PDF files for individual pages.  This will be the only file updated from now on when Ryan has time to add to them.
THANKS AGAIN RYAN!

The formula pages don't show up in the zip file. Do you have a link for them? Thanks

No. Unfortunately they did not make it into the zip file. I'm going to be adding a better formula page soon and will update the version and put the page pictures back up when it is done. Sorry.

Thanks for the work! The choice and variety met my needs perfectly.

I made one slight addition of a GRID to the simple bullseye PDF so that I can log shot placements more easily. Just a thin dotted-line grid at the circle intersections to horz/vert.

I'd be glad to send you the file, but I can't upload to this message. If you want it, reply and l'll figure a way to get it to you.

Incidentally, when printed at 90% scale, they are 4x6 and will fit comfortably in a 4 1/2 x 6 3/4 6 ring spiral notebook widely available at office supplies.

Good info!
Send your copy to and I'll add it to this page. Thanks!

Great Book! One of the better books that I've seen on the market.

Thanks Micahael,
As of to date there has been over 8000 downloads of it, so I assume people are using it. Best part is the price. smile

Will be a few weeks likely. The version will change to Sniper Logbook v4-8.zip when it is done.

thank you. i am trying to make the same setup as you but i am taking some of the things out. i am mainly useing it as a barrel log and going to use the bullseye targets to document every shot and where it ended up on the target. i was also wondering when i open up the file for the front cover page how do i edit it so i can type my name and rifle info in the spaces provided?

Unfortunately you have to use Adobe Illustrator right now, but I will work on making those fields "fillable" and upload a new PDF when I'm done that allows you to fill in the information. No one ever asked about that I never thought to use a PDF "form" to do this before.

Actually that would work well on the blank ballistic card also!

i am looking at buying this paper and was wondering if your files will be centered and ready to go when i print it on this paper. here is a detail of the paper layout if it helps.http://www.riteintherain.com/images/pdf files/loose leaf template.pdf thanks for all your help.

Sam,
That is the exact paper I used. They are centered perfectly using an H&P Laserjet 4000, but I can not guaranteed any other setup. Print with "shrink to fit" setting on also.
I have updated the post to reflect the paper used and added your link, thanks!

Thank you for having this available online. I am teaching my kids to shoot and this will be a valuable tool for that.

You are very welcome and thanks for taking the time to let me know!
