I recently decided I had made too much money working overtime and needed to buy a treat.
I had thought about a suppressor for a few years but never wanted to take the time or trouble to get all the paperwork done to own one, and for the cost you can buy some nice guns.
I did a little research on the best “can” by checking results of tests done in 2005 at www.silencertalk.com and decided on the class winner for thread on .308 cans, the SRT Shadow.
I decided to jump though the hoops this time because I met a new Class-III that moved into Central Point, OR. and setup shop there as Jackson Armory. The owner was polite and very helpful in my first ever form-4 transfer and bought the can (SRT Shadow) for me with his funds with $200.00 down.
Once I got the form-4 package form JA, I was off to get the needed (2) “passport” photo IDs, and a print card at the local Sheriff’s Office.
The print card cost $20.00 for two cards and the photos can be done across the street at the USPO for a $15 fee.
After all the “I"s were dotted and “T"s crossed, the form spent less than two (2) weeks on the Sheriff’s desk and I returned the signed form to the gun dealer for the final send off to the Feds with $200.00 for the tax stamp.
Then I waited… waited… waited… You get what I’m saying?
Total: $985.00 + $90.00 for GA Precision to cut 2” off barrel, thread to 5/8-24TPI and make a thread protector for a grand total of $1075.00 + S&H of rifle (~$30.00)
Hope this helps others who were like me and thought it was a hard process. The only hard part is waiting....
PS. Double check your paperwork before submitting to the Sheriff or Feds, anything not marked or incorrectly marked or overly corrected will kick it out.
PPS. This is what it really all about.
Shooting steel with SUPERsonic loads at 620 yards. Have not tried Sub sonic yet.
